The Confessions of Socrates
I was writing Dinner with Lisa when I knew my next novel had to be about Socrates. Since learning about him when I was a teenager, I have been drawn to the necessity of questioning everything; above all else, my opinions, ideas and my particular version of the truth. I can’t say exactly why I was so compelled to make the classical Greek philosopher my next subject. It might have had something to do with the idea of fleshing out a life story, one that I had always felt lacking in some way; even if it fell to me to do the fleshing out.
